Anne McCaffrey: 1926 - 2011

Die in SF- und Fantasykreisen legendäre irisch-amerikanische Autorin verstarb nach einem Schlaganfall am 21. November in ihrem Haus in Irland. Sie wurde 85 Jahre alt. McCaffrey wurde vor allem durch ihre Buchreihe Die Drachenreiter von Pern bekannt und war im Fandom bis ins hohe Alter aktiv. Sie war die erste Frau, die einen Hugo-Award gewann, die erste, die einen Nebula-Award gewann und die erste, die mit einem SF-Titel in die Bestsellerliste der New York Times aufstieg. Ohne zu übertreiben, kann man sagen, dass sie Autorinnen den Weg in die Science Fiction geebnet hat.

Wer noch nichts von ihr gelesen hat, weiß nicht, was ihm entgangen ist, aber wer ihre Bücher kennt, wird Anne McCaffrey vermissen.

Was haben Bände (Plural von Buch-Band) mit Faden zu tun? Wären es Bänder (Plural von Band, z.B. Armband) gewesen, hätte ich es verstanden.

Ich habe (bisher) keines ihrer Bücher gelesen (dafür aber von H.G. Francis, dessen kürzliches Ableben hier nirgends erwähnt wurde), jedoch sagen mir die Buchtitel etwas.

Mein Beileid der Familie und ihren Fans, die sie alle wohl sehr vermissen werden.

In den Büchern wird die Welt in bestimmten Zyklen von einem Organismus aus dem All "überfallen". Im Abstand von ca. 200 Jahren nähert sich Pern regelmäßig ein anderer Planet seiner Umlaufbahn - der rote Stern, dabei lösen sich von der Oberfläche des Roten Sterns eiförmige Kapseln, die sich in der Atmosphäre von Pern in tödliche, fadenähnliche Sporen entwickeln, im Sprachgebrauch der Bewohner Perns "Fäden" genannt. Also das Wortspiel war eher für die Insider gedacht. Trotzdem lohnt es sich mal in die Bücher zu schauen.

Richtig gut war das Wortspiel wirklich nicht
